The San Ramon Valley Unified School District is excited to share information about our summer learning programs.  Through our Personalized Learning Initiatives, SRVUSD is expanding educational opportunities for students during the summer months. These options are only available to students beginning  the second semester of their 8th grade year.

The 2018 high school school summer learning options included:

  • Offering SRVUSD high school summer school courses beyond remediation. High school students were able to take SRVUSD summer classes to advance and fulfill graduation requirements.

  • Accepting accredited non-district courses to meet SRVUSD advancement or graduation requirements and be included on official transcripts.

  • Partnering with Diablo Valley College to host summer courses on SRVUSD campuses.

Our 2019 Summer Program will be announced in early 2019.

Principal's Message

October 5, 2018

Dear GRMS Families:

Some newsletters are easy to write and others simply are not. I’ve spent many days thinking about what I wanted write on the following topic because not only is it difficult to write about, for many of us, it’s difficult to discuss. Conversations on race can be hard because they are so personal, so raw, and in today’s climate, they can also be divisive.  Gale Ranch is very fortunate; we are a diverse community, representing many races, cultures and religions. For the past 5+ years I have taken for granted the need to discuss these differences, but the time has come.

Over the past couple of years we have seen a rise of incidents that involve hate.  Mind you, there haven’t been many, but even one is too many. Last week, at our PTSA meeting, a parent was brave enough to share with all in attendance that the N-word had been used towards her son in a hallway of our school.  My greatest responsibility is to create an atmosphere where every student and every staff member feels welcomed, valued and loved--and I have failed. But as I have said often, our greatest failures lay the groundwork for our greatest achievements.  And this achievement will not be mine alone. The partnerships we have created between school and home are now paramount in resolving this issue.

Our end goal is to create a school climate that promotes and values the differences among us. Over the past several years we have taken this calling seriously and have done the following:

* Implemented the Anti-Defamation League (ADL) No Hate For Place initiative, which includes 6th grade curriculum being introduced this year.

* Implemented our own Character Education program.

* Staff training on “Courageous Conversations” with Dr. Lori Watson

* Celebration of Heritage Months

* Staff training on ADL’s Anti-Bias work

* Random Acts of Kindness Club (which is student-initiated and student-led)

* Words Matter Awareness Week

* Implemented the “Speak Up, Be Safe” curriculum for 6th graders

* Climate Committee

With all that we have done, there is so much more that we could be doing.  If you would like to be a part of this ongoing discussion, please plan on attending all upcoming PTSA meetings, as I will use this time to collaborate with you all.

Warmly,

Sue Goldman, Principal
