Tuesday, March 6- DVHS counselors will visit our 8th grade Science classes to discuss choosing classes for next school year, graduation requirements, and transitioning to life at high school.  Course Selection Sheets will be due in the GRMS Counseling Office.  Mrs. Zotter, GRMS Counselor (former DVHS Counselor), will be available to answer questions regarding Course Selection during Tutorial for the week of March 5 (sign up required).

Wednesday, March 7 at 5:00PM, DVHS Main Gym- Incoming 9th Grade Parent Night-  an informational meeting about transitioning to high school in the fall. *Athletic Night will follow at 6:00PM in the Auxiliary Gym. Information regarding participating in athletics, tryout procedures, etc. will be covered.  This is the only opportunity to talk to and meet some of the DVHS coaches and athletes before 8th Grade Promotion- league rules do not allow contact with 8th grade students and coaches prior to them exiting middle school.

Chinese Placement Test:

A Chinese placement test will be offered to determine initial placement into our district’s language program for 9th graders who have not taken Chinese at the middle school.  All students must complete an application in order to take the test.

Note: The highest level into which a student can place is Chinese 2.  Students currently enrolled in Chinese 1A/1B in middle school cannot take this test- they will be placed into a Chinese class next year, per district policy. 

 

The incoming 9th graders' Chinese placement test is scheduled at 3:10 pm on March 9, 2018 at Dougherty Valley High School, Room 4209. 

 

After submitting an online application form (see link below), students will receive an email informing them of the testing location.

 

The last day to submit the application is 3:00 pm, March 7, 2018.

Korean Placement Test:

 

Who:   Incoming 9th, 10th, 11th and 12th graders who are interested in taking Korean 2 next school year

 

How:    Fill out and submit the application form (attached to this message) by email to Ms. Boohyun Lee  (blee2@dvhigh.net) by Monday, March 5.

 

When:   Test will be administered from 3:10 pm – 5:00 pm, on Tuesday, March 6, 2018.

              

Where:   Room 4106, Dougherty Valley High School

 

Skills tested:  The test includes grammar, vocabulary, reading comprehension, listening comprehension, writing, and speaking proficiency.

 

Test Requirements:

  • There is no requirement to take Korean 1.
  • In order to enroll in Korean 2 next school year, a student is required to take the placement test equivalent to the final exam of Korean 1, and receive the grade C or better on the test. The test questions are based on the current Korean 1 textbooks and workbooks, Sogang Korean 1A & 1B.

But this conference is about so much more than drug and alcohol prevention it's about leadership, self-confidence and empowering young people to make positive choices that impact their future.

 

This fun filled all day event, consists of games, team building activities, inspirational speakers, workshops, small groups sessions, and so much more all focusing on helping teens to make positive choices in their lives. The days ends with an awesome DJ and dance!

SRVUSD recognizes that some students want to challenge themselves academically beyond the classroom.  Course advancement is one opportunity available for our students.  Students may enroll in an approved math, science, or world language (Spanish, French, or Chinese) course of study outside of SRVUSD that may lead to course advancement.  We also recognize that advancement is not for all students.  Families must determine if their student(s) can manage the fast pace curriculum delivery.

For elective change requests, please fill out a pink form from the front office, get parent/guardian signature, and return to the counseling office by Friday, 1/12/18.  Please note class change requests are accepted for electives only (no Core, Science, Math, or PE changes).  Please also note that oftentimes elective changes are not able to be made, due to electives being full and only offered during certain periods.

Thank you for participating in the GRMS Math Selection Test. If, based on the test scores, you (or your student) were selected for the GRMS Competitive Math Team or the GRMS Math Olympiad Team, you should have received an email indicating the selection.

 

We had a very large number of students who took the selection test but could accommodate only 35 students for the above competitive teams. However, we are happy to announce the introduction of a new math program in San Ramon (Dougherty Math Circle) that is open to all the students in San Ramon.

 

Dougherty Math Circle is a program where students work in groups and collaborate on mathematical ideas not commonly taught in school or in a different perspective than commonly taught. More information including how to register can be found at:https://doughertymc.wordpress.com

There are limited spots available but we will do our best to accommodate as many students as possible!

 

Your tests can be picked up from Mrs.Bergen’s room starting November 10th.

Are you a (middle school/high school student) who wants to express your thoughts and knowledge with other teens? Do you want to represent your fellow teens for the San Ramon community? If so, then look no further than applying for the Teen Council Ambassador Program!
 
The City of San Ramon’s Teen Council is selecting up to 3 teens from each local high school and middle school to be a part of this program. Each representative will be able to provide input on pressing teen issues, communicate with Teen Council Members and Ambassadors, and assist with the promotion of City and Teen Council programs. The applications are available online and are due by October 20th at 4:30 PM to the Dougherty Station Community Center. Results will be announced via email by October 25th and made public on our website by October 30th. No late applications will be considered.

The AMC 8 is a 25 question, 40 minute multiple choice examination in middle school mathematics designed to promote the development and enhancement of problem solving skills. This year, the AMC 8 will be given in the MPR at GRMS on Tuesday, November 14, 2017, 3:00-4:00 pm. We will let you know details as we get closer to the test date. This is not a required exam for any students. It is entirely optional and quite challenging.

 

The test is not free. We are asking each participant to return $6 (exact change in cash or a check made out to GRMS) along with the registration form. Turn in the form and money to your math teacher or Mrs. Bergen by Friday, September 29th, 2017.

The examination provides students an opportunity to apply the concepts taught at the middle school level to problems which not only range from easy to difficult but also cover a wide range of applications. Many problems are designed to challenge students and to offer problem solving experiences beyond those provided in most middle school math classrooms. Additionally, the AMC 8 can promote excitement, enthusiasm and positive attitudes toward mathematics.

We will be holding a celebration for President’s Award (8th graders who have maintained a 4.0 GPA for all semesters in middle school) on Wednesday, 5/17 at 8AM in the MPR.  Award recipients will need to pick up their certificates, starting at 7:45AM, before the ceremony begins.  The celebration will include students being honored on stage and a breakfast for student award recipients sponsored by our PTSA...  parents are welcome to attend the ceremony.  A list of President's Award recipients are posted in the MPR.

6th and 7th graders attended a presentation about Course Selection for 2017-2018 yesterday and today.  Students will be selecting all of their elective choices online this year.  After selecting classes online, they will then need to 1) print a "Request Summary" sheet, 2) number their choices and get parents' signature, 3) then turn in to their Core teacher by Friday, March 24.  Copies of the handouts given to students are attached to this message, for your reference (instructions for online Course Selection and elective descriptions).

  • In order to enroll in Korean 2 next school year, a student is required to take the placement test equivalent to the final exam of Korean 1, and receive the grade C or better on the test. The test questions are based on the current Korean 1 text books and workbooks, Sogang Korean 1A & 1B.

2017-2018 Course Selection

 

Tuesday, February 28- DVHS counselors will visit our 8th grade Science classes to discuss choosing classes for next school year, graduation requirements, and transitioning to life at high school.  Course Selection Sheets will be due Monday, March 13 in the GRMS Counseling Office (a copy is attached to this message).  Mrs. Zotter, GRMS Counselor (former DVHS Counselor), will be available to answer questions regarding Course Selection during Tutorial for the week of February 27 (sign up required) and Wednesday, March 1 at 8:30AM in the MPR.

Wednesday, March 8 at 5:00PM, DVHS Main Gym- Incoming 9th Grade Parent Night-  an informational meeting about transitioning to high school in the fall. *Athletic Night will follow at 6:00PM in the Auxiliary Gym. Information regarding participating in athletics, tryout procedures, etc. will be covered.  This is the only opportunity to talk to and meet some of the DVHS coaches and athletes before 8th Grade Promotion- league rules do not allow contact with 8th grade students and coaches prior to them exiting middle school.

This AMAZING conference is an opportunity for middle school teens to spend the day with high school leaders who believe in themselves and making healthy choices and decisions such as being drug, alcohol, and tobacco free. But this conference is about so much more than drug and alcohol prevention it's about leadership, self-confidence and empowering young people to make positive choices that impact their future.

 

This fun filled all day event, consists of games, team building activities, inspirational speakers, workshops, small groups sessions, and so much more all focusing on helping teens to make positive choices in their lives. The days ends with an awesome DJ and dance!

The GFWC Dublin San Ramon Women’s Club will sponsor  the 2017 STUDENT ART CONTEST.

This is the 25th year of our sponsorship.  The contest is open to all students in the cities of Dublin and San

Ramon.  The artwork and photography must be completed as an individual effort and not a class project.

It should be mounted on stiff poster board.  The student art and photography will be exhibited in the

community.  Art should be no larger than 18” x 24”.  Photographs should be no larger than 8” x 10”.

NO EXCEPTIONS  ***  NO FRAMES  ***  NO ENTRY WITH GLASS WILL BE ACCEPTED

There is no specific theme for the 2017 Student Art Contest.  Any medium, oil, watercolor, chalk, pencil, crayon, etc. can be used.

Categories for this contest are as follows:

STUDENT ART      PHOTOGRAPHY  

Grades K-1       Grades 6-8

Grades 2-3       Grades 9-12

Grades 4-5       All photography must be no larger

Grades 6-8       than 8” x 10”, mount on rigid mat

Grades 9-11        Photo must have been taken

Graduating Seniors      during contest year (Jan.1, 2016

Special Education K-8      Dec. 31, 2016).  Back of photo  must

Special Education 9-12      have arrow drawn indicating the top.

Entries need to be in the School Office NO LATER THAN 12 NOON ON FEB. 22, 2017

ALL entries must have the following information on the REVERSE SIDE OF THE ART WORK:

Student’s first & last name, grade level, teacher and school name

All entries will receive certificates.  Each 1st, 2nd and 3rd place entry will receive a cash award and a ribbon presented at the Student Art Reception on April 23, 2017.  Families, teachers and friends of the student winners are welcome to attend.  A letter with details on the art reception will be hand delivered to the winners schools.  1st, 2nd, & 3rd  place winners move on to the Mt. Diablo District competition held Mar. 9, 2017.
