What is GIA?

GIA, Gryphons in Action, are Gale Ranch students who volunteer for community service in the area. Students are awarded a certificate for their service hours at the end of the year.  We meet once a month to work on fund raisers, discuss volunteer needs and ideas, and to share experiences.

How do I become a GIA?

When you decide you want to join the GIA program, email the Staff Advisor at with your name and grade. Your email address will be added to a distribution list in School Loop that will provide you with up to date GIA events and opportunities.

What is GIA?

GIA is a service organization that encourages helping others and making the world a better place.

How do I become a GIA?

You must earn a total of 15 hours during the year, by the year-end meeting in April.

You are encouraged to turn in the GIA Activity Forms when you have completed a service so that they can be tracked.  There is a box in the front office, or they can be placed in my mailbox by the copy room.

Hours do not carry over to the next school year so you start fresh each year.

When do we meet?

An informational meeting is held at the beginning of the year and subsequent meetings will be held once a month on Wednesdays after school. You do not need to attend the meetings to be a member, but it is encouraged. We will share ideas about volunteering opportunities and collaborate about what we can be doing.

How do I join?

Please send a note to Mrs. Brunetti at and let her know you want to be included in the emails pertaining to GIA.

When can I start earning hours?

You may begin earning hours after your final class ends the previous year. You are strongly encouraged to earn as many hours as possible during the summer so that studying and other extra curricular activities are the priority during the school year.

What types of work can I do?

As long as you are volunteering your time and talent and NOT receiving merit badges, hours for other organizations, money, or privileges for your time, you can count the hours toward GIA.

Please note that you can volunteer for immediate family members for a total of 5 of the 15 hours.

How do I report my hours?

You fill out the GIA Activity Form and have it signed by a supervisor where you volunteered.  Turn in the form to the front office or my mailbox. Forms are available on the GRMS website under Activities.
